Central Park Historical Society Marker: Central Avenue/LIRR Motor Parkway Bridge
The Central Park Historical Society has placed two markers in Bethpage honoring the Long Island Motor Parkway. The first marker was placed on the north side of Central Avenue at the site of the longest Motor Parkway bridge.

Central Park Historical Society to Honor the Long Island Motor Parkway
Members of the Central Park Historical Society have informed me that they plan to honor the Motor Parkway with two historical markers; one on Stewart Avenue the site of the 1908 Ground-Breaking Ceremony and another at the site of the Central Avenue/Railroad Motor Parkway Bridge.

From the Noel Gish Collection: Postcards of the Vanderbilt Cup Races & Long Island Motor Parkway
Noel Gish has a collection of Long Island postcards which he used to help teach Long Island history to his classes at Hauppauge High School. Then & Now: The Jerusalem Road (Stewart Avenue) Motor Parkway Bridge in Bethpage
Seven Motor Parkway bridges were built for the Motor Parkway Sweepstakes and the Vanderbilt Cup Race; including the bridge over Jerusalem Road (now called Stewart Avenue). As seen in this Then & Now, the bridge has been well documented over the last 103 years:

CSI Challenge: Identifying A Vanderbilt Cup Race Photo of the #18 Mercedes in 1908
One of my favorite vendors at the Hershey Meet is Paul Osika and his collection of vintage automobile race photos. Then & Now: Central Park (Bethpage)
It was a great turnout last night at the Bethpage Public Library. A total of 73 people attended the presentation "The Motor Parkway, Vanderbilt Cup Races and Central Park" hosted by the library and the Central Park Historical Association. Here are five "Then & Now" images from the presentation.

Then & Now: Extant Structures on the Vanderbilt Cup Race Courses (Updated: 7/31/2019)
There are few Long Island buildings and structures that were built from 1904 to 1910 and remain standing. These nine buildings, structures and remnants on the Vanderbilt Cup Race courses have survived over 100 years:

The Long Island Rail Road and the Vanderbilt Cup Races
Up to 250,00 people attended the Vanderbilt Cup Races, when the population of Nassau County was less than 75,000 and cars were owned only by the wealthy. Accordingly, the vast majority of the spectators came from New York City and Brooklyn and used the Long Island Rail Road to travel to and from the races.
